My Plan For Health is my exploration of the university’s wellness programs. I inform faculty and staff of the myriad resources available at Ohio State and in the surrounding community, and interview faculty and staff whose research touches on health and wellness issues. In 2010, the blog promoted the Faculty and Staff Fitness Program, exercise classes, and the flu shot program. In two years, I have gained more than 450 followers on the university network.
I’ve guest-blogged for On Research, an analysis of research on campus and in the news. There, I wrote about Pluto’s planetary status and what the statistics of political polls have to do with climate change. But by far the most fun I’ve had is when I guest-blogged from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Three of the four experiments running on the LHC involve Ohio State physicists, and I was able to attend a conference about the computing grid that is supporting their research. While there, I wrote about how high-energy particles from space are helping researchers align the LHC detectors, and how the most cutting-edge piece of equipment a scientist can own is a cell phone. I learned that the designers of the LHC labs put careful thought into every detail. Finally, I profiled the founder of the LHC computing grid, and discussed his legacy for science.
